First, congratulations to our women’s track & field team for capturing their fourth straight ACC Indoor Championship. The seniors have created a winning culture on and off the track, and we could not be more proud of them for the way they represented Clemson this weekend. Congratulations as well to Interim Director of Track & Field Shawn Cobey and his entire staff for an outstanding performance.

Our student-athletes are the most valuable assets within our organization. With that in mind, I invited all of our student-athletes to come in for a question-and-answer “town hall” meeting on Monday of last week. The concept is something I have done at previous institutions, where student-athletes ask questions of the administration to see if we can better assist their day-to-day lives. [Read more...]

With baseball season starting this weekend with a three-game home series against William & Mary, I thought it would be a good time to discuss some of the current and future enhancements we have planned for Jack Leggett’s program.

First, fans will notice new chairback seats throughout Doug Kingsmore Stadium. We no longer have bleacher seating in our main grandstands, which will enhance what is already a terrific game day experience for our fans. Second, we will replace the actual playing surface after this season. The field has needed some attention the last few years, and now it’s at a point where it is on top of our priority list. It is a busy, exciting time for Clemson Athletics. On Wednesday of this week, I will have the opportunity to say hello to our Board of Trustees during their meeting in Columbia. Later on Wednesday, I will fly to Fort Lauderdale, FL along with our Faculty Representative Janie Hodge to represent Clemson at the Atlantic Coast Conference annual winter meetings.

Although this year’s agenda is not yet finalized, we will certainly discuss the transitioning of Pittsburgh and Syracuse into our league. We will also figure out how the additions of Louisville and Notre Dame will assimilate into our future football schedules. The inclusion of not only the five annual football games — but also Olympic sports across the board — makes Notre Dame a very valuable addition to our brand. [Read more...]

Happy New Year Tiger fans!

As you know, we ended 2012 with an exciting victory over eighth-ranked LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, and as an added bonus, it was ESPN’s most viewed non-BCS bowl game ever! Thank you to the coaches, staff and student-athletes who worked hard in preparation for this game. Also, we want to send a huge thank you to all the Tiger fans that were in attendance. It was a special evening that the Clemson family will long remember! [Read more...]

CLEMSON — Dan Radakovich was officially introduced as the 13th athletic director in the 116-year history of Clemson athletics — and only the fifth since 1940 — Monday in the McFadden Building. The way Clemson sports have made their way into Radakovich’s life throughout the years, it almost seemed only fitting. [Read more...]

CLEMSON — Clemson cross country has been spoiled with individual success the past few seasons.

The Tiger women’s team, which finished fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2011, had all-region mainstays in Alyssa Kulik and Kim Ruck. The men’s team did not have the same type of success, but did boast an All-ACC and all-region runner in sophomore Ty McCormack.

The 2012 fall season will prove to be different, as none of the three will be in Clemson uniforms. Kulik and Ruck have moved on after graduating, while McCormack will redshirt this fall after traveling to China for a study abroad program. [Read more...]

CLEMSON – While the 2011 ACC Cross Country Championships performance was not what the Clemson men’s team desired, sophomore standout Ty McCormack was certainly an exception.

Running in front of a home crowd at the Musser Fruit Research Center just miles from the Clemson University campus, McCormack took to the forefront early in the race much to the delight of Tiger fans who came out to watch. [Read more...]

CLEMSON – Alyssa Kulik felt fatigue setting in Saturday as she navigated her way through the final kilometer of Clemson’s Musser Farms course at the ACC Cross Country Championships.  Suddenly, close friend and roommate Kim Ruck came up beside her and offered words of encouragement.

“I don’t remember exactly what I said,” admitted Ruck.  “I just remember thinking this was our last race at home. [Read more...]
