Patience with youth sure to pay off

CLEMSON — Clemson men’s soccer coach Mike Noonan will not characterize the 2011 season as a rebuilding year, or even a step in the process of rebuilding. In fact, he expected much from a group that included a lot of fresh faces new to the grind of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

A youth movement within the Tiger program is underway, and despite the team’s exclusion from the NCAA Tournament, there are tangible signs—most noticeably the six-match unbeaten streak to close the season—that youth has brought renewed vigor into Tiger soccer.

Late season charge gives Tigers shot at postseason

CLEMSON — With six games remaining on the schedule following a 3-2 loss to Furman on Oct. 18, everyone within the Clemson men’s soccer program knew that the margin for error was slim. In fact, it was virtually non-existent.

A Bright Future for Tigers

Clemson Men’s Soccer Coach Mike Noonan couldn’t have guessed during the off season that at this point in their season, their leading scorer and most steady player on offense would be a freshman.

As their 2011 season has unfolded, freshman Brynjar Benediktsson has come up big for the Tigers, leading the team with six goals, most of which have come in the most critical of times.

CLEMSON—Given his family ties to the Boston area, Clemson men’s soccer coach Mike Noonan felt a little extra satisfaction when his team knocked off 14th-ranked Boston College at home on Friday night.

More than that, he might have seen his team find its identity—a struggle that he and others within the program have been having for a long, long time.

Benediktsson, Tigers enjoying the taste for the dramatics

Making the game-winning goal, shot, hit or touchdown in any sport is something every athlete hopes to experience. Being “the one” to win the game is a feeling few athletes actually get to feel.

 

But for Clemson freshman Bryniar Benediktsson, this is something he has already experienced twice. Actually, he has experienced in the Tigers’ last two games.
