CLEMSON — Ever since its three-goal loss to Duke last Friday, the Clemson men’s soccer team has worked hard at defending its penalty box.

For much of Tuesday night against 14th-ranked Charlotte, the Tigers did just that. But two breakdowns in the final eight minutes allowed two Charlotte goals, leading to a 3-1 setback at Historic Riggs Field.

CLEMSON – When the Duke Blue Devils came into Tigertown with a 1-4 record Friday night, it appeared they were right for the taking. However, despite losing four of their starting players, Duke showed it is still a force to be reckoned with in the ACC.

CLEMSON — The first thing Mike Noonan plans on doing Saturday morning is getting a fresh face.

The Clemson head coach has not shaved since the start of preseason camp, a tradition he employs until his Tigers garner their first victory of the season. Thanks to goals from Ben Meyers and Amadou Dia, and four saves from goalkeeper Cody Mizell, Clemson beat archrival South Carolina 2-0 Friday night in front of a record-breaking crowd at Historic Riggs Field.

“I’m going to come over to the Clemson House, and the boys are going to take it off,” Noonan said smiling.

Clemson (1-1) was all smiles as they beat the Gamecocks for the first time since 2006 in front of 7,423 fans.

CLEMSON, SC – Though Friday night was all about celebrating its history with the dedication of I.M. Ibrahim Stadium, the men’s soccer program got a glimpse into its future during Clemson’s 2-0 victory over South Carolina.

The Tigers (1-1) defeated the Gamecocks thanks to two freshmen who were the only players to score. Clemson midfielder Ben Myers was the first to put the Tigers on the board with an unassisted goal at the 15:18 mark, which was the first goal Clemson produced against Gamecocks in 410 minutes and 25 seconds.

Dear Tiger Fans,

I want to thank each one for attending the Clemson-South Carolina men’s soccer match at Historic Riggs Field last Friday night as we defeated the Gamecocks, 2-0.

We set a new regular-season attendance record of 7,423 at Historic Riggs Field.  It was an electric atmosphere, and I want to thank the Clemson family.

Without you, we could not have been successful.  Historic Riggs Field is a special place, and you the Tiger Faithful gave us the opportunity to win.

Please come back and support us at all of our home matches–we need you there!

Last Friday, as I walked on the field and saw our fans all in Orange, it made me proud to be a Clemson Tiger!

Go Tigers!

Mike Noonan
