Jack of all trades

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Given the smaller number of swimmers and divers on the roster for the Clemson Tigers this season, Head Coach Christopher Ip has said that several individuals will have to step up and take on expanded roles in order for the team to experience triumphs this season.

One swimmer he knows he can count on to fill that void is junior Tori Cervone. The native of Pennsylvania has played the jack-of-all-trades role for quite some time now and is comfortable doing it . In fact, she says it is her preference to swim in as many events as she can.

GREENVILLE, S.C.—The 2010-11 men’s swimming and diving season was possibly the most successful in Clemson history.  A year like that can sometimes be attributed to a strong senior class, so often times such a season is followed by a dip in performance due to the graduation of the team’s leaders.

But last season’s Clemson men’s swimming and diving team was led by a pack of juniors that have now returned for another shot at a national ranking at the end of the season.

Clemson has six on ACC All-Academic swim team

CLEMSON — The Atlantic Coast Conference released its 2011 Academic All-ACC teams on Wednesday. Among the selections were six student-athletes from Clemson University.

Juniors Seth Broster, Chris Dart and Chris Reinke, sophomore Eric Bruck, and freshman Steven Gasparini were selected to the men’s team, while sophomore Tori Cervone represented the Tigers on the women’s team. [Read more...]

CLEMSON — The Clemson swimming and diving teams were honored Saturday with an awards dinner at the McFadden Building in Clemson.

More than 50 swimmers and divers were honored for team awards, All-ACC honors and much more. The Clemson men’s swimming team closed out the 2010-11 season with a 25th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis. [Read more...]

CLEMSON — It has been a rough year for the Clemson swimming and diving programs. From the announcement that the programs—minus women’s diving—would be phased out to the issues that rendered the team’s on-campus pool unusable, there has been enough adversity that many athletic teams would at least consider throwing in the towel.

Tigers finish in top 25

CLEMSON – The Clemson men’s swimming team was rewarded for its late-season surge, as the Tigers were voted into the top 25 poll by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

Clemson is currently tied with South Carolina for 25th place, as both programs picked up 41 votes. The Tigers were one of two schools to join the poll this week, along with Penn State. [Read more...]

Four Tigers qualify for NCAA Finals

CLEMSON — When the list of qualifiers for the 2011 NCAA Men’s Swimming Championships was released on Wednesday, a foursome of Clemson Tigers was on the list.

Juniors Seth Broster, Chris Dart, and Chris Reinke, along with sophomore Eric Bruck, all posted qualifying times in multiple events. Clemson was third among Atlantic Coast Conference teams in qualifiers, behind only Virginia (10) and North Carolina (8). [Read more...]
