Maturation of young squad encourages Hoover

CLEMSON — A twenty-win season and a 12-8 conference mark was not enough to get the Clemson volleyball team into the NCAA Tournament, much to the chagrin of Head Coach Jolene Hoover. But despite missing out on a berth in the postseason, the veteran coach knows there was a great deal of growth that took place in her team that has resulted in a more mature bunch heading into next year.

CLEMSON — Clemson volleyball coach Jolene Hoover has waited for her team to come of age for a while. It is part of the developmental process to be patient and await the promised results.

Her team may have taken that step forward over the weekend, when home wins over Duke and Wake Forest all but cemented Clemson’s place among the upper tier of the conference pecking order.

“They played with so much confidence, like they knew they would win,” Hoover said. “If they’re playing this well and it’s starting to be November and we can start getting hot here, it’s a good position for us to be in.”

Volleyball team has enjoyed success away from Jervey too

CLEMSON — After getting two solid wins this weekend to run its ACC record to 5-2, the Clemson volleyball team will take its show on the road for the first of four straight road matches beginning this Friday at Miami.

In all, nine of Clemson’s last 13 matches will be away from the friendly confines of Jervey Gymnasium, where the Tigers have posted a 7-1 record thus far. Going on the road is “no problem” according to outside hitter Mo Simmons.
